A bit shorter this time, I got told off for the last one being too long! The objective of ENews is to advise, inform and update. And maybe even to amuse from time to time. I have not got a fuse for every plug, so feel free to send any newsworthy items you would like to be considered for inclusion to postmaster@cctmembers-newsletter.co.uk oOo CAST OFF THE CAST OFFS Courtesy of the Friends of the Waterways Museum, the Trust has been offered free space at the forthcoming Gloucester Docks Boat Jumble that takes place on Sunday 6th April. Roger Wells, email ForWells@jodarolo.freeserve.co.uk who is the leader of the Monday & Wednesday morning shenanigans at the Western Depot, Eastington - just off the M5 junction 13 for those of you who may be uncertain as to where it is - will be happy to accept, as he puts it, any sa(i)leable items. They do not need to be boat specific, as allsorts (not the liquorice variety) were sold last time we did this.
FACING THE JURY - AGAIN I have received the following advice:- "The House of Commons Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee is set to re-examine British Waterways' regeneration and restoration role, WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO BW'S DECISION TO WITHDRAW FROM THE COTSWOLD CANAL PARTNERSHIP. The Committee invites all interested parties to submit a brief written memorandum setting out their views on this matter. THE DEADLINE FOR ACCEPTING MEMORANDA IS MONDAY 10 MARCH 2008. Notes For Submitters In all probability the Trust will be submitting a single co-ordinated response to this opportunity. In addition, anybody is welcome to make a submission in their own name, but do please make sure you follow the 'Notes for Submitters' if you want your opinion to be heard. A large response will draw attention to the issue ....and who knows where that could lead? CREWS FOR CRUISE Would you believe there's less than a month to go to the start of our trip boat season? It recommences at Lechlade with 'Inglesham' on Good Friday 21st March and at Saul with 'Perseverance' on Saturday 22nd. Please heed the crew requests if you possibly can, especially after the awful weather last year that affected the 2007 season. Fingers crossed that both boats will be able to operate on all scheduled operating days this year...... And remember, both vessels are available for charter; for information on Inglesham charters contact John Wallace john.wallace100@btinternet.com and for Perseverance ones your point of contact is Mal Brown, m-v-brown@supanet.com oOo OPPORTUNITIES GALORE Talking of things getting close, the Saul Festival is but a matter of weeks away as well, less than 20 to be nearly precise. You will derive tremendous benefits when you offer your services at this fantastic fun-filled festivity, not least of which is free entry to the Festival site*. All we ask in return is that you volunteer for just two 2-hour shifts sometime during the weekend. Have a look at http://www.junctionevents.org.uk; follow the Support Staff link at the top of the page for all the information you could possibly need before you download, complete & post the Support Staff Registration form! oOo FORTHCOMING ATTRACTIONS - NOT TO BE MISSED Further information about most of these items appears on the 'Activities' page of the volunteer website at http://www.cct.teamconnect.org.uk 2nd March: Work Party in Chalford area; Steve Pickover is your point of contact, stevepickover@tiscali.co.uk 3rd March: Western Branch monthly meeting at Fromebridge Mill, on A38 roundabout west of M5 junction 13. 7:30pm start, everybody welcome 8TH March: 35th Anniversary Dinner at the Whitminster Hotel, Whitminster. It should be possible to arrange alternative dates if those proposed are inconvenient; contact Wendy Beamont wildcat@rya-online.net or phone 01235 764172 to discuss 6th April: Boat Jumble at Gloucester Docks (See above) oOo For updates on restoration progress at Oil Mills - with pictures - have a look at the Cotswold Canals Partnership's website, http://community.stroud.gov.uk/general.asp?pid=2&pgid=1071. oOo Bye for now - please keep me posted!
