Apologies for issuing ENews 34 so soon after 33. However the following article missed yesterday's deadline and is pretty relevant in the overall scheme of things.

CITIZENS JURY COMES TO STROUD
The Citizens Jury is an aspect of the Big Lottery Bid to fund the restoration of the Stroudwater Canal from Stonehouse to Saul. Central to this bid is the involvement of the community at all stages.
The Restoration Partnership has commissioned a Citizens Jury to examine one particular aspect of the project - namely the crossing of the M5 and A38. Consultants have been engaged to produce a randomly selected jury from local residents and Witnesses have been selected by an Advisory Committee (on which CCT was represented.)
The Witnesses, representing various stakeholders in the Project (including CCT), will give evidence to the Jury. The Jury is expected to try and answer the questions "what factors should BW take into account when choosing where to put the crossings, and how important are each of these factors?"
CCT members (and the general public) are free to attend meetings of the Jury in the George Room, The Subscription Rooms, Stroud Town Centre between the following times:
Wednesday 21st March & Thursday 22nd March 9.45 am to 1 pm and 2pm to 4.15pm
Saturday 24th March 9.45 am to 1pm and 4.15 pm to 4.45 pm
The Jury will hear and question around 15 witnesses during the times indicated above although the last session will be devoted to the Jury giving its preliminary findings.
In all there are 13 Session within the times indicated above. Some session will include more than one Witness. 3 of the Witnesses are CCT nominees who will appear before the Jury as follows:
Session 1 Wed 21st March, 9.45 am to 10.45 am. Anthony Burton (local historian and author) will give a general introduction to the importance of the canals system in general and the Cotswold Canals in particular.
Session 6 Thurs 22nd March, 9.45 am to 10.45 am Ken Burgin will give a presentation on engineering challenges in restoring the canal and provide solutions.
Session 9 Thurs 22nd March, 2.00 pm to 3.00 pm Clive Field will speak on the importance of the canals from a boaters perspective.
Witnesses at other Sessions will include representatives of BW and other 'stakeholders' including The Highways Agency, Environment Agency, anglers, walkers, cyclists and the disabled.
