THE CEREMONIAL SOD
Apologies again for the short notice given in ENews 50 about this event, which was staged purely as a photo shoot for the press. It duly took place in front of journalists from the Citizen & Stroud News & Journal with spades suitably wielded by our very own Bruce, Robin Evans and Nigel Studdert-Kennedy .
It is to be hoped that there will be a champagne-popping session - perhaps we should use sparkling water given the need to conserve funds at the moment - once work really starts.

WALK THE WALK
Richard Attwood's first guided walk based on his book "Around the Cotswold Canals Volume 1" is taking place on the 30th September, details on P22 of the Autumn Trow and in ENews No. 49.

THE MILL ON THE FROME
Is the venue for the next Western Branch Meeting on Monday 1st October.
In other words - Fromebridge Mill, Whitminster 7.30pm as usual.

FROM THIRD TO SECOND
Please note that future meetings of the Work Action Group will take place on the second Tuesday of each month rather than the third.
So that means the next one will be on Tuesday 9th October, 7.30pm at the Heritage Centre, Saul.

OLD FOSSILS
On Thursday 11th October the Gloucestershire Branch of the IWA is arranging a talk on archaeology matters to be given by Matthew Reynolds of Cirencester College. The venue is Gloucester Yacht Club in the Docks.
There will be a brief introduction by David Viner, BW's Heritage Advisor for Regeneration, and he will be mentioning some of the archaeological features of interest on the Cotswold Canals.

FARMING SUCCESS
Yes we're going to the Farmers' Market at Stroud again on the 13th October. Our attendance there seems to be well received and it is proving to be a fertile recruiting ground.

CHOPPING AWAY AT CHALFORD
The second of Steve Pickover's series of Work Parties east of Chalford will take place on Sunday 14th October - further information and contact details for Steve appear on the Volunteer website Activities page at http://www.cct.teamconnect.org.uk.

GATHERING TALL STORIES
In conjunction with the Gloucester Docks Regeneration Group, a boat gathering is being organised in the Docks on the weekend of October 27th-28th. This originally started as a social event to commemorate last year's DEFRA cuts protest but seems to have grown like Topsy this year.
Amongst the attractions there will be the CCT Roadshow, tall ships will be on display - see http://www.gloucestertallships.co.uk - a band will be playing outside the Regimental Museum on Saturday evening and there'll be a bar outside the Yacht Club.

I am delighted to report that Mark Welton is looking to resurrect Work Parties in the Tunnel House - Coates Roundhouse area as soon as he can.

Remember it's the Cotswold Canals Trust Annual General Meeting this coming Saturday, starting 10.30am at Stroud District Council Offices, Ebley.
This will be your last chance to hear yet more memorable oratory from Bruce prior to his standing down as Chairman after a magnificent 20 years at the helm.
