oOo LIFE REALLY IS A LOTTERY You can uncross all those fingers & toes now; the outcome of the Big Lottery Living Landmarks Fund application for Phase 1B funding has been announced - and I am really disappointed to have to tell you that we were not amongst the winners. If you want to know which projects were successful then have a look at http://www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/pr_141107_uk_ll_landmarks_on_map?regioncode=-uk. But.......life goes on! We still have a packed programme of activities and events, some of which are detailed below and on the volunteer website at http://www.cct.teamconnect.org.uk. For a start I know there are lots of children eagerly looking forward to seeing Santa in his Grotto on board 'Perseverance' next month and we certainly won't be letting them down! oOo SLUICE SOLUTION SHORTLY? As some of you already know there has been an ongoing problem at Ryeford, about a mile west of Ebley Mill, where one of the River Frome sluices has failed. It is at this point that a supply is fed into the canal; because of the reduced river level water has drained out of the canal and, regrettably, there is evidence of several dead fish including at least 2 mature pike. Whilst there has been a delay in the fixing of the sluice for whatever reason, and despite it being located in a popular stretch of the conservation-led Phase 1A of the restoration, the good news is BW have assured us that repairs will commence on the 19th November. oOo FORTHCOMING ATTRACTIONS 15th November - Santa Cruises follow-up planning meeting at the Heritage Centre for all those willing to help with the organisation, from 7:00pm 18th November - Work Party at Chalford. Have a look at the Volunteer website or contact Steve Pickover for further details - stevepickover@tiscali.co.uk or 01453 752943 mobile 07905 596006. 21st November - Eastern Branch meeting at the Trout Inn, Lechlade. To include a discussion on the Roadshow's appearance at the Lechlade Christmas Lights event on the 1st December; ideally some volunteers based in the area are still sought for this event, please contact Mike Slade if you can help. 01179 693270 after 6.00pm, mobile 07805 110080 or by email to mrmike.slade@googlemail.com 24th November - Work Party at Ryeford Wharf. Richard Attwood is your man here - richard@raash31.co.uk or have another look at the Volunteer website 25th November - Guided walk starting at Tarlton Bridge by the Tunnel House Inn, Coates. Details on the CCT website http://www.cotswoldcanals.com/guided_walks.htm The Yacht Club is in Gloucester Docks; use the Southgate Street entrance (by the Tall Ships pub), follow the road round to the right & the Club is about 100 yards in front of you. oOo The objective of ENews is to advise, inform and update. And maybe even to amuse from time to time. I can't afford crystal for a ball, so please feel free to send any newsworthy items you would like to be considered for inclusion to postmaster@cctmembers-newsletter.co.uk David Pagett |
